Video: Love the One You're With
Chris Newman of the U.S. EPA recently forwarded me a link to a video and Web site produced by lovethe1you'rewith, a group of four graduate students at Stanford trying to get folks to resist the urge to replace their aging computers and upgrade instead.
The video cites the impact of computer production on the environment:
- The energy required to produce a new computer is enough to run a computer for 10 years.
- The energy saved by extending the life of your computer by a year could run it for two years.
- 220 million tons of e-Waste are generated annually in the United States.
These numbers are compelling, and are pretty much supported by the Electronics Environmental Benefits Calculator commissioned by the EPA.
lovethe1you'rewith is encouraging folks to leave comments on their site, as they want all the feedback they can get to improve their site and message. Have a look!
