What's Next in Media? And How Do Nonprofits Jump In?
As someone who's worked on the media/communications end of the nonprofit world for a few years, I know how difficult it can be to even catch the coattails of new media technologies and the way they influence how we communicate with our constituents. Even more difficult is staying on the cutting-edge of those technologies.
Some organizations have really succeeded at staying ahead of the curve while others are still struggling with moving beyond sending out a traditional press release as their only external communication to constituents. Embracing new social media technologies can be very difficult because it not only requires balancing resources, inspiring ingenuity, and buy-in among staff (and sometimes board), and — often the most difficult for nonprofit organizations — a willingness to let go of some control of the message.
With that in mind, this slideshow really captures the importance of organizations getting on the social media bandwagon — even if only on the coattails — with some tips on how to do it and some great thoughts to push the buy-in from others in the organization. Check it out.
