Finally, a Yelp for Nonprofits
In a world of TripAdvisors, Yelps, and Epinions, I rarely feel short of other people's input on my decisions. Where to go to dinner? I check out Zagat or Yelp. Going on a trip? TripAdvisor to the rescue. Buying a new gadget... well you get the jist. Reviews and opinions abound in the public sphere on all these topics, but in large part have never been available before about the nonprofit community.
Not any longer. Wanna get the word out about how fabulous your organization is? Wish you had some great third-party source to tell the world of donors and volunteers that your organization is worthy of their dinero and time? Well, I've got just the new resource for you.
GreatNonprofits, which launched at the end of 2007, "is a place to find, review, and talk about great—and perhaps not so great—nonprofits. If you have direct experience with a nonprofit, share your knowledge and help other people discover trustworthy nonprofits that are making a difference."
Not only does the site allow individuals to write testimonials and reviews of organizations with which they've been involved or contributed, it also allows nonprofits an online platform to create an organizational profile and list their specific needs for a given campaign.
In all, this new online resource could be a great way for nonprofit managers to promote your organization, cultivate new donors, connect with potential volunteers and in-kind service providers, and generally feel the love. I'll be making my way to the site to dish about my favorite organizations soon. Check it out!
