Put Your Organization on the Map by Sharing Your Data Graphically

Just as newsrooms are recognizing the value of displaying content through graphics, so nonprofits and foundations should consider employing the same techniques, notes Troy Schneider in a recent post in his eponymous blog.

Moreover, Schneider notes, nonprofits may be even better positioned to do this than newsrooms, as they often already have organized and compiled research data, and because they lack the high-pressured deadlines that prevent mainstream media from investing time into charts and graphics. With free tools like Drupal and Google Maps readily available, he adds, nonprofits have more tools at their disposal to create high-quality visuals with little or no outside expertise.

What is the value in this? Not only can such projects be great sources for mainstream media, they can really put your organization on the map by giving it exposure not previously available, Schneider says. By organizing and presenting complex data in an easy-to-access way, he notes, you can establish your organization as a reputable source in your field.
