Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Now Available

Microsoft SQL Server 2008 was released to market on August 6, and it's already available as a TechSoup Stock donation. Microsoft SQL Server is one of the most popular database servers in the world, and we're glad to help Microsoft get this powerful product into the hands of medium and large nonprofits.

If you're using SQL 2005 and are considering an upgrade, Microsoft SQL engineer Andrew Fryer points out some recent webinars about SQL 2008's security and infrastructure enhancements. You can listen to audio recordings of the webinars with no hassles, but you'll need to register with microsoft.com to see the PowerPoint slides. If this is all terrifying to you, just send this link to your favorite techie.

For a company that often has to fight a reputation of being too large and impersonal, Microsoft sure has some fascinating developer blogs. Recently on Fryer's blog, for example, he wrote about environmentally conscious computing, criticizing Microsoft's own claims about Vista's energy efficiency.
