$10 Million in Social Enterprise Awards from Google

Google will be giving out $10 million in awards through what it's calling Project 10^100 ("Project 10 to the 100th").  They are calling for "ideas to change the world by helping as many people as possible" in the following categories:

Community: How can we help connect people, build communities and protect unique cultures?
Opportunity: How can we help people better provide for themselves and their families?
Energy: How can we help move the world toward safe, clean, inexpensive energy?
Environment: How can we help promote a cleaner and more sustainable global ecosystem?
Health: How can we help individuals lead longer, healthier lives?
Education: How can we help more people get more access to better education?
Shelter: How can we help ensure that everyone has a safe place to live?
Everything else: Sometimes the best ideas don't fit into any category at all.

It looks like these do not have to be technology-based projects. The San Francisco Chronicle's tech blog says that
Google provided them with "an example of an existing project that it likes: A team that designed 24 gallon water jugs that people without access to running water can wheel home instead of carrying smaller jugs on their heads."

A detailed description and submission form is at http://www.project10tothe100.com/index.html and the deadline for submissions is October 20, 2008.
