Social Actions Meets Twitter
I blogged a few weeks ago about Social Actions, a new project to aggregate data from social sector directories about the wide variety of ways people can get involved with causes they care about. Like a lot of new ideas in social media, you can't quite grasp how cool Social Actions is until you see how people are using it.
Joe at Social Actions just told me about their new Twitter application. To sign up, simply type in a cause you care about and your Twitter info. Every 24 hours, Twitterfeed will check for new postings in your cause and, if there is a new one, post it to your Twitter account.
I registered a few days ago with the cause "Arts." There's been only one update so far (a volunteering opportunity in Chicago), but I love the concept. It's the kind of idea that makes me really excited about the aggregation that Social Actions is doing, and interested to see what sorts of applications are in the pipeline.
My one complaint is that I really dislike giving out my password when it's not necessary. One solution would be to convince Twitter to adopt OpenID, and some people are trying to do just that.
Remember, Social Actions compiles data from other nonprofit directories. To let Social Actions users know to get involved with your nonprofit, check out the list of partners and register with the appropriate ones.
