Cabell County "Green" Library
Libraries have been at the cutting edge of green building and adopting greener practices. TechSoup's own Brenda Hough went to the West Virginia Library Association Conference and blogged about a session in which Steve Christo highlighted green features of the new Salt Rock branch of the Cabell County Public Library.
According to her report, he focused primarily on building materials, but also mentioned a few green technology items like monitors that power down automatically.
There are lots of ways that libraries and other places that offer public access computing can save money and reduce their environmental impact. One of the easiest and most effective things to do is set the power-management features on all public access computers so that they go into sleep or standby mode when not in use.
Do you know someone who works or volunteers in a library? Please pass along the link to the MaintainIT Project so that they can get free resources that can help them better manage their public access computers.
