Report Comparing Open Source Content Management Systems: WordPress, Joomla, Drupal, and Plone

Idealware OS CMS ReportOur pals over at Idealware have just released a pretty comprehensive report comparing some open source content managment giants — WordPress, Joomla, Drupal, and Plone. Here's more from their announcement:

WordPress, Joomla, Drupal, and Plone are all free and open source systems that can help nonprofit build and manage websites - but how do they compare? While they're similar in many ways, they also have some substantial differences when it comes to features and flexibility.  Our 60-page independent report provides an introduction to the topic, an overview of the features that might be useful for your organization, and a very detailed comparison of the four systems.

This report also includes our new directory of the consultants and firms who help nonprofit create websites and implement these Content Management Systems.

Looking for a system or a consultant to build a new website? Have questions about how it all works?  Want to know if these types of systems are right for you? We have you covered!

Many thanks to the Lead Sponsors who helped to make this report possible:  PICnet, our Joomla sponsor; Phase 2 Technologies, our Drupal Sponsor; Jazkarta, our Plone sponsor; and Rad Campaigns, our WordPress sponsor.

Having personally used all four of these systems (and completed a major site overhaul with one of their lead sponsors), I have my own bias but am excited to check out the research Idealware has reviewed and what their findings entail. For any organization considering a adopting one of these open source CMS, this seems like a great report to start with in figuring out which one would help meet the needs of your organization.

The report is available once you register (for free) at Idealware's site. Once I've had a chance to really go through it myself, I'll try to post any particularly interesting findings back here for those of you who may not want to read through the full report.
