Sun Remanufactured Server Computers Now Available from TechSoup

GreenTech LogoJust last week, TechSoup officially has a new donor partner — Sun Microsystems — which has started donating remanufactured Sun Fire X4100 M2 x64 servers to eligible nonprofits and libraries through TechSoup. These are robust, factory remanufactured 2.5 GHz computer servers that have hot-swappable hard drives, power supplies, and fans. If one essential part of the server fails, it can be replaced with minimal downtime. These servers come with the Sun Solaris 10 operating system, but will work with other operating systems and also with virtualization software that allows a single server to do the work of multiple servers.

We've listed the remanufactured Sun Fire X4100 server computers as a green product as we have with all of TechSoup's refurbished IT equipment because of the astonishing environmental benefit of extending life to electronic devices. See our Environmental Case for Refurbished IT Equipment for details on that.

All this is to say that you can now request a powerful, eco-friendly Sun server computer, and can save your nonprofit or library considerable expense. Eligible organizations can request up to five servers per fiscal year at an administration fee of $225 each (and with a retail price of $3,000 each, these are a steal). The administrative fee for this Sun product includes all shipping and handling charges. This is a great lower-cost option if you're seeking a new server (or servers). Please place orders quickly as we have a limited supply.

And while you're at it, TechSoup also has a host of other refurbished and remanufactured donated and discounted hardware products from our RCI program (where you can request refurbished laptop and desktop PCs) and our IKON discount program (where you can request remanufactured office equipment like heavy-duty copiers).

Are you thinking of adding or updating a server at your org? Discuss whether a remanufactured server might meet your needs in this Hardware Forum thread.
