As year-end approaches, many Canadian charities are asking the same question: "How do we prepare for Giving Tuesday and year-end giving without overwhelming our team?" That’s exactly what we explored in our recent TechSoup Canada webinar, Other Ways to Give: How Digital DAFs and Non-Cash Gifts Can Boost Your Giving Season.
During the session, GiveWise’s Generosity Growth & Partnerships Lead, Jessica Rayne, walked through how Canadian donors increasingly give from their wealth, not just their wallet. With over 85% of Canadian wealth held in assets like investments and business holdings, charities that only highlight credit card giving risk missing significant donations.
Jessica unpacked how a GiveWise Giving Fund — our digital-first donor-advised fund (DAF) — works. Donors contribute assets, receive a tax receipt immediately, and recommend grants to Canadian registered charities over time. Data shared in the webinar shows that donors who give from assets often give 20%–30% more per gift and up to 6 times more over time. When charities make non-cash giving options visible and simple, they unlock generosity that’s already waiting to be given.
She also addressed common misconceptions about DAFs — particularly the fears around anonymity, delays, and added admin work. Through GiveWise, charities can see donor names in real time, receive weekly disbursements directly to their bank account, and accept complex gifts (like securities, wire transfers, or DAF-to-DAF contributions) without extra setup.
Jessica closed with six practical steps for year-end:
The core message was simple: When charities make smarter giving options visible, donors are able to give more — and give more confidently.
