Laurencetown Lenaderg and Tullylish Community Association

Donated Software Enhances After-School Youth Program in Northern Ireland

The Laurencetown Lenaderg and Tullylish Community Association works to meet the social, recreational, educational, health, and welfare needs of the people in its rural community. Social isolation is one of the biggest issues faced by the people in this rural area of Northern Ireland. Although its staff is small, the association provides a variety of activities and groups from its base in Laurencetown. One full-time staff person, three part-time staff members, and many volunteers offer services like youth groups, groups for older people, and a range of classes.

The association received a donation of Microsoft and Symantec products from Charity Digital Exchange, a program of Charity Digital, a partner of the TechSoup Global Network. The donation of Microsoft Office Professional Plus and Microsoft Encarta Premium 2007 with five user licenses, made an immediate impact on the association's new after-school group. The secondary school students can now use the program's five laptops to the fullest while doing their homework. This includes taking advantage of Microsoft Encarta and learning how to use industry standard software like Microsoft Word.
