Momentum (previously Norfolk Council for Voluntary Youth Services) is a membership-based charity that acts as an umbrella group for organizations working with children and youth in Norfolk's community sector. Its more than 300 member groups serve children and youth by supporting youth clubs, projects, and sports and art groups. Momentum provides its members with practical support such as help with constitution and policy writing, staff recruitment, background checks, and induction training. The organization also acts as a voice for its members in a variety of forums and is a clearinghouse for information and guidance on a range of issues.
When Momentum was Norfolk Council for Voluntary Youth Services (serving 100 groups with only one full-time employee), it didn't have an IT budget. The grants it received were set aside for specific areas such as staffing or trainings. Momentum was able to secure a donation via Charity Digital Exchange, the donation program of Charity Digital, a TechSoup Global Network partner. These donations allowed the organization to equip every computer in the office with top-quality software, without having to divert money from supporting its members work with Norfolk's youth.
