Tech Donation Helps Small Habitat Staff Make Big Impact in Bulgaria
Bulgaria's Habitat for Humanity (registered as the Podlson Za Chovechestvoto Foundation), like other Habitat offices, supports low-income families in pursuit of decent and affordable housing. The organization provides affordable low-interest loans with long repayment periods to those in need of proper shelter. These monthly repayments then go into a revolving fund to serve the next family in need. Habitat also builds and renovates houses in partnership with families, civic government, and business organizations.
With the help of the Workshop for Civic Initiatives Foundation (WCIF), a TechSoup Global Network partner in Bulgaria, Habitat received a number of donated Microsoft software products that have helped improve the organization's operational efficiency. The software helped Habitat, which has a staff of only five, devote more resources to directly serving clients. The software was not just useful, but essential to operating the organization.
