Software Donation Powers Self-Sufficiency for People with Disabilities
Positive Solutions empowers individuals to make educated choices, remove disability-related barriers, and enhance their lives through self-advocacy. Located in Washington state, it offers people with disabilities opportunities to voice their concerns and to get disability benefits and education. These tools enable self-sufficiency within the community.
Community work incentive coordinators are dedicated professionals who work with Positive Solutions to help people who have disabilities. In the past, each coordinator was spending time writing up benefit analyses for each person. Each benefit analysis could take up to two hours, which was time that could have been spent counseling. Coordinators went about writing these documents in entirely different ways because they didn't have the same tools.
Positive Solutions now uses Microsoft Office, which it received through a donation from TechSoup. Microsoft Word enables the organization to create templates for specific cases. Now instead of each coordinator creating a benefit analysis from scratch every time, he or she simply uses a template. This cuts down time and effort, and allows the analyses to be more clear and concise.
