Software Donation Bolsters Senior Citizen Register in Australia

The Rosebud Police Senior Citizens Register Inc. (RPSCRI) is a volunteer-run organization that works to ensure the safety and security of senior citizens in Rosebud, Victoria.

The goals of RPSCRI are to make elderly people feel safer, create a closer relationship between police and the elderly, have ready access to personal information of the elderly (should it be required in an emergency), prevent elder abuse, and inform the elderly of police initiatives such as the Neighborhood Watch Program.

The service is provided free of charge, and registration is voluntary. RPSCRI is supported by Victoria Police, but staffing is provided by a dedicated group of volunteers.

RPSCRI maintains a database of personal information on more than 4,000 senior citizens. Thanks to a donation of Microsoft Office Professional Suite made through the DonorTec program of Connecting Up Australia, a TechSoup Global Network partner, the database is now running on Microsoft Access.

RPSCRI also uses Office Professional to publish newsletters and documents, and create PowerPoint presentations for seminars and training purposes. The donated Microsoft software also came with Software Assurance, so RPSCRI can upgrade its Office Professional package at no extra cost. As a result, volunteers will have access to the latest versions of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, and Visio.
