BiGTech Helps Growing NGO Spur Economic Development in India

Asomi is a leading microfinance institution operating in the Indian state of Assam. It is guided by the belief that economic inclusion is key to helping the poor secure a proper livelihood, which can also alleviate many sociopolitical problems. Within six years of its founding, Asomi has grown to over 30 branches with over 150 employees. Asomi's growth means that it has been successful in spurring economic development.

But growing its network has meant that it too needed help — with information technology support. And when social good organizations are in need of help with IT, the place to turn to is BiGTech, the software donation program ran by the NASSCOM Foundation, a partner of the TechSoup Global Network.

Through BiGTech, Asomi received a donation of much-needed Microsoft software. The Microsoft Windows Server system manages information sharing between computers and throughout Asomi's branches. Microsoft's Visio software has helped Asomi staff design processes and plan workflows, while Microsoft Excel and Word are used for creating financial analyses and corresponding reports.
