Asociatia Telefonul Copilului (Child Helpline Association) protects Romanian children from abuse and rights violations with a free helpline. The Child Helpline provides information and counseling regarding children's rights, refers individuals to institutions that can help them, follows up on cases, monitors institutions' responses, and provides psychological counseling for children.
Despite having a relatively small team, the Child Helpline has handled nearly 1.7 million calls over the past 10 years. The organization is highly dependent on technology to make things work smoothly. It has a huge database to manage, and all of the information it collects is hosted on the organization's own servers. It is therefore imperative that the software work well, as the staff are required to log key information into the database as they talk on the phone.
Because of these organizational needs, the Child Helpline has always invested in legal software while having to make painful cuts to other vital needs. TechSoup Romania, which is operated by The Odorheiu Secuiesc Community Foundation and Ateliere Fara Frontiere, provided the Child Helpline with a donation of Office Professional Plus and Office Standard. These donations have given the organization robust back-office software so it can continue the important work of protecting Romanian children from abuse and neglect.
