TechSoup offers a wide range of digital security products to nonprofits. Two of our most popular options are solutions from Norton and Avast. But of the two, which is the right choice for your nonprofit? Let's take a look.
If you are a smaller nonprofit with a more limited number of devices, Norton products are a good choice. TechSoup offers one-year subscriptions for the following products.
This package includes antivirus protection for Windows PCs, Macs, and mobile devices. It also comes with a firewall, VPN, password manager, cloud backup, and more.
Norton 360 Deluxe doesn't require a server or any kind of centralized management console. Instead, you install and manage Norton 360 on all of your systems individually and independently of one another. This is best suited for organizations with only a handful of computers (say, up to 10) and no IT staff.
Get a five-device license for a $17 admin fee.
With Norton Small Business, you get antivirus and device monitoring for Windows, Mac, and mobile devices. You also get a password manager and an updater tool to keep your software current and protect against emerging threats. The Windows version also includes a cloud backup feature and a collection of system utilities.
You manage all your devices through an online management console, so it's a good choice if you're a somewhat larger organization with more computers and devices to manage.
It's available in packages for six, 10, or 20 devices. Admin fees start at $20.
If you work on public Wi-Fi, it's a good idea to connect to a VPN to protect your data. For that, Norton VPN is a good low-cost option: It helps protect data from getting intercepted by others using the same network as you. Eligible organizations can get a five-device license for a $10 admin fee.
Eligible organizations (as defined by Norton) can request enough Norton 360 or Norton Small business licenses to cover 100 devices per year (July 1 – June 30). You need to pick one product line or the other, though — you can't mix and match through TechSoup. You can also request enough Norton VPN licenses for up to 100 devices.
To request Norton products through TechSoup, organizations must have annual operating budgets of less than $10 million. Organizations must also be located in the 50 U.S. states. Some organization types are ineligible. For more, see Norton's full eligibility requirements.
If you are a larger organization with more than 100 devices, have more sophisticated cybersecurity needs, or would like more flexibility, turn to Avast Business CloudCare.
With Avast Business CloudCare, you use a cloud-based dashboard to manage security for all your protected devices. You can mix and match between three Avast CloudCare products to best fit your needs.
TechSoup offers one-year subscriptions for the following products.
With CloudCare Managed antivirus, you can protect any number of laptops, desktops, or servers (a.k.a. "endpoints") on your network. It comes with sophisticated tools to let you manage, monitor, and configure across all covered devices. Reporting features let you learn more about the security status of all your devices.
CloudCare Managed Antivirus is available for both Windows and Mac, though the Mac version has a more limited feature set. Pay an $8 admin fee for a one-year subscription for a single device.
Looking to limit what your staff and volunteers can access while at work? CloudCare Content Filtering has you covered. You can use it to limit the amount of personal web usage at work or to block security threats. Flexible policy settings allow for different limits depending on location (in the office, at home, in the field, and so on).
This product is for Windows only. Get a one-year subscription for one device for an $8 admin fee.
Outdated software is one of the biggest security risks out there: Cybercriminals will often target security flaws in operating systems or popular apps as a means of infecting your systems. By staying current on patches, you can mitigate this threat.
CloudCare Patch Management for Windows computers can help. It lets you push software and operating system patches out to covered devices on your network so you can keep them up to date and secure — and better conform to any applicable compliance requirements.
This product is for Windows only. Get a one-year subscription for a single device for a $12 admin fee.
Avast places no budget or quantity limits on eligibility, so Avast is ideal for organizations of all sizes. See Avast's full eligibility requirements.
