Big Buddy Mentoring Trust is based on the simple philosophy that boys need good male role models in their lives to become good men. The organization matches male mentors with boys who don't have a father or male role model in their lives. Each mentor commits to spending two to three hours a week with a boy (a "little buddy," age 7 to 12) for at least a year. The program currently covers the Auckland, Wellington, and North Shore–Rodney regions of New Zealand and is in the process of expanding across the country.
The donation of Microsoft Professional Plus 2007 and Expression Design software through Connecting Up Australia and the New Zealand Federation of Voluntary Welfare Organisations allows Big Buddy Mentoring Trust to do high-quality design work in-house for its publications, ID cards, and other communications materials.
