The Bucharest Community Foundation invests time, money, and energy in developing new communities. Acting locally, they started changing the world around them in 2011, and now they are part of a national movement that includes 11 other community foundations.

Their vision is different from that of a classical nonprofit organization: they work as a hub for those who need financial support and those who can offer it. In doing so, they help people create and support local communities. In 2013, they helped close to 50 community projects get financed.

One of their biggest fundraising events, Swimathon, attracted 138 people who swam for 20 charitable causes. About 660 people donated an average of 20 euros. Because more and more communities are created online, technology plays an important role within the organization.

"For an NGO that intermediates the connection between a donor and a project, it is essential for a large part of the donor's money to be used within the project. So, similar to a startup, our costs are important, so it was extremely useful to lower them so much by accessing TechSoup donations," says Alina Kasprovschi, Executive Director.
