The mission of Computers for Kids (CFK), a nonprofit based in Sandy, Utah, is to give all school-aged children access to a computer in the home.
CFK has three core programs that support its mission: collect unwanted computer equipment, refurbish the usable items, and recycle the remainder; provide complete refurbished Internet-ready computer systems to low-income individuals; and provide transferable-skills training to volunteers who are trying to achieve stable employment.
As a Microsoft Authorized Refurbisher, CFK uses Microsoft software as a core component of its refurbishing program. The organization deployed Microsoft technologies to completely revamp its marketing, volunteer management, outreach, and internal business systems. Microsoft products such as the Office suite, Outlook, and Publisher were used to streamline the organization's internal operations and improve outreach. This allowed CFK to focus more time and energy on the organizations core mission — to put computers in students' homes.
