La Lumiere, which means light in French, is a Belgian nonprofit that has been providing services to the blind and visually impaired since 1919. The organization serves some 1,500 people with visual disability. La Lumiere offers a wide range of programs and services designed to help the visually impaired lead fruitful and autonomous lives. These include a diagnostics and rehabilitation center, special education programs, a library equipped with audio and braille books, personal support and home visits, social and recreational activities, temporary shelter, and employment preparation services.
With the help of SOCIALware, a TechSoup Global Network partner in Belgium, La Lumiere received a package of software products from Microsoft that has vastly improved the organization's operational efficiency, freeing up valuable staff time to serve clients.
