Software Donations Aid Group Supporting Special-Needs Kids

The mission of Kids on the Move (KOTM) is to support the development of young children, including kids with special needs and their families.

The Orem, Utah–based nonprofit was founded by two mothers of children with Down syndrome who had experienced a lack of community support for families of children with special needs. The women, Karen Hahne and Brenda Winegar, envisioned an organization that would put parents in charge of helping their child meet developmental challenges with support from each other and caring professionals. That vision became a reality when Hahne and Winegar founded Kids on the Move in 1984. KOTM has grown to serve more than 1,400 families annually, a feat that would've been difficult were it not for TechSoup and Microsoft.

Before receiving its donation of Microsoft Small Business Server, KOTM had to contend with a server that was prone to crashes and did not include a backup system. TechSoup's software donation program solved both problems, saving the organization money and staff time. Increased efficiency has opened up the opportunity to expand services to more Utah families.
