IT Donations Are a Backbone of Support for Domestic Violence Victims
Since 1975, Transition House has provided emergency shelter transitional and supported housing for those fleeing domestic violence. The organization provides direct services to 200 survivors of domestic violence while also reaching out to an additional 4,000 youth through its education programs.
A strong technology infrastructure plays a vital role in Transition House's daily operations and would not be possible without TechSoup. Through TechSoup, Transition House has received licenses of Microsoft Office software for its 12 networked staff computers and 4 client workstations. In addition to email communications, Microsoft Outlook's scheduling functionality helps the agency manage workflow. Client services and donor databases are managed through Microsoft Access. Youth education presentations are created on PowerPoint, while reports, case files, and donor thank-you notes are created in Word.
As for the software used on the client workstations, it is one of the many tools used to help clients achieve independence. Clients can hone their computer skills, prepare for school exams, apply for post-secondary education, or polish their resumes to apply for jobs. Clients can also apply for benefits that they and their children may be entitled to. Technology also allows clients to keep in touch with loved ones and learn about their new home communities, safely away from their abusers.
