Update, November 13, 2024: On November 12, Adobe announced the following changes to its plan to retire Acrobat Pro 2020:
- The product's availability will be extended: Instead of being discontinued on November 30, it will be available through TechSoup until May 30, 2025.
- Support has been extended until November 30, 2025.
- Additionally, Adobe has removed the expiration date for the product. Any Acrobat Pro 2020 licenses you have will work indefinitely.
We have updated this post to reflect these changes.
Continuing its transition to subscription-based licensing, Adobe has announced that it will discontinue sale of new licenses for Adobe Acrobat Pro 2020, effective at the end of May 2025. This applies to both Windows and Mac versions.
After that point, Adobe will no longer offer perpetual licenses of Acrobat 2020. Perpetual licenses are one-time purchases that you download to your individual desktop or laptop computer, with limited updates. Moving forward, Adobe will only offer its industry-leading Acrobat products as subscriptions.
What Are My Current Options?
- You can request the on-premises Acrobat 2020 through TechSoup from now until May 30, 2025. The product will go out of support on November 30, 2025: Although it will continue to function, Adobe will no longer offer technical support, bug fixes, or security patches for Acrobat Pro 2020 beyond this date.
- You can move to a subscription-based version of Adobe Acrobat. The subscription for Acrobat Pro DC will provide organizations the most up to date functionality, new AI tools, and continual updates as new features are provided.
- You can also request Adobe Acrobat Classic from a commercial marketplace. You can learn more about this offer on Adobe’s website.
What if I Already Have Adobe Acrobat Pro 2020 Through TechSoup?
Organizations that already have Adobe Acrobat Pro 2020 can use their licenses indefinitely. However, product support for these licenses will end November 30, 2025.
As we learn more, we will let you know and continue to update this blog post.
