Donated Software Helps Habitat Spread the Word in Romania
Worldwide, Habitat for Humanity provides a family in need with decent housing every 5-1/2 minutes. In Romania, Habitat has been working to create better living conditions for poor families for 16 years. During that time, it has helped more than 3,000 Romanian families.
Habitat for Humanity in Romania has seven local offices and more than 1,300 national and international volunteers. New technology plays an important role in helping the organization's far-flung staff and volunteers stay in touch with each other and work together toward the same goal.
Last year, one of Habitat's largest projects in Romania was the Big Build — a five-day building marathon. With the help of 500 volunteers, the event resulted in building 11 new houses and consolidating 3 others in Oradea city and in Preajba, Dolj county.
Software obtained through TechSoup has played a key role in helping Habitat promote its work in Romania. A donation of Adobe Creative Suite 6 has enabled the organization to create, design, and manufacture in-house all its posters, flyers, promotional visual materials, and annual reports.
This has helped the organization save money for other projects. The savings enabled the organization to launch an online shop — Shop for Humanity — in a creative effort to increase awareness and raise funds.
