Small North Carolina Nonprofit Makes Big Impact with Donated Tech Tools
Avery County Smart Start helps families prepare their young children to enter school. The Newland, North Carolina–based organization connects parents to valuable pre-literacy and child-service resources and works to increase the quality of childcare providers. Child-service resources include referrals for vision and hearing testing, help with childcare subsidies, and more.
Avery County Smart Start is guided by the belief that early intervention and education is key to helping kids achieve in school and in their careers. Research shows that children who participate in Smart Start programs enter school with better language skills and exhibit fewer behavioral problems.
Avery County Smart Start has a staff of only three people. It relies on effective technology to achieve its mission. Donations of Microsoft Windows and Office enable the staff to work efficiently and devote more resources to their clients.
