Low-Income Ohioans Receive Affordable PCs Thanks to Software Donations
Based in Albany, Ohio, ReUse Industries strives to create economic opportunities by diverting reusable items from landfills. The organization receives donated items that are then cleaned, repaired, and resold to area businesses and the public.
One of ReUse Industries' largest programs is PCs to the People, which minimizes digital waste and provides computers to low-income residents. Bridging the digital divide is critical for ReUse's community, which has unemployment and poverty rates at or above 150 percent of the national average.
ReUse Industries can offer PCs at affordable rates because of the Microsoft Authorized Refurbisher (MAR) Program and TechSoup software donation program. On average, ReUse Industries makes more than 100 Internet-ready computer systems available a year, complete with CPU, monitor, keyboard, and mouse.
ReUse Industries' affordable rates mean that each year, clients collectively save more than $50,000 and divert thousands of pounds of electronic waste from entering landfills.
