Software donation Helps Activists Who Protect Bats
In Romania, a group of activists militates for the protection of bats. The Romanian Bat Protection Association is a nonprofit, non-governmental organization that unifies Romanians who are interested in research on and protection of this endangered species.
Their mission is to promote activities in bat protection and research while focusing on general environmental protection as well. The organization was established in 2000, and it is the only Romanian NGO that specializes in bat protection.
Part of their work is to collect data on the presence and activity of bats in different habitat types, to develop guidelines on sustainable land usage, and to promote conservation of the bat population. One of their most important projects is The European Night of Bats, an event where they raise awareness by organizing public events and scientific conferences on bat protection and research.
Because they have offices in six cities and work together with other international NGOs and institutions, they find that technology makes their work easier and saves them precious time.
"The latest software acquisition though TechSoup was an Office package that helps us process the data we collect from the field, when writing presentations for different events and news materials," says Roxana Tudoasa, a manager assistant.
